V rohu márnice stojí pytel plný prašivých kostí. Dnes to bude dlouhá noc. Nemrtví, ležící na dřevěných stolech, jsou neklidní, rozmlouvají se mnou a touží po čerstvé krvi. Beru do rukou kladivo a odvedu potřebnou práci. Drtím vše na prach, klouby praskají, lebky pukají a tichý šepot démonů se postupně mění v řev bestie. Z přehrávače mi hraje nové album německých maniaků FLESHCRAWL. Kapely, která mě provází celý můj hudební život. Je jedno, jestli jsme sedávali s kamarády u reproduktorů ve starém sklepě a nábožně poslouchali a uctívali první EP "Lost in a Grave" z roku 1991 na kopírované kazetě a nebo když jsem si letos pustil ukázky na youtube.

Na tuhle smečku je vždy spolehnutí jako na smrt a i letos je pro mě velmi příjemné a drásající si jejich novinku rvát pod tlakem do hlavy. Pradávná síla severských melodií je stále patrná, pořád mám pocit, že se mi hudba dostává do kostí, do podvědomí, do samé mé podstaty. Jsem moc rád, že se kapela, i přes nepřízeň osudu v podobě smrti mého velmi oblíbeného zpěváka Svena Grosse, dokázala znovu postavit na nohy a složit nové, zabijácké skladby. Nový vokalista Borisz Sarafutgyinov odvedl skvělou práci, koneckonců přesvědčil jsem se o tom i loni naživo (mimochodem, reporty, recenze na předchozí alba i rozhovor naleznete dole pod dnešním článkem). Poslouchejte v chladu a naprosté tmě!

Teprve potom nové album, které má v sobě zakódované švédské death metalové DNA, vynikne naplno. Surové, drtivé pasáže se potkávají s chladem starých katakomb. To vše je zabalené v pevných pavučinách. Zvuk je náležitě masivní, ostrý, divoký a zařízne se vám pod kůži i do podvědomí. Zlí jazykové mohou tvrdit, že vše zde již bylo, ale tahle smečka stála u zrodu smrti stejně jako jejich kolegové ve zbrani ENTRAILS, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, NIHILIST. Němci samozřejmě přidávají spoustu svých nápadů a invence a výsledkem je nahrávka, která vás pohřbí zaživa. Dle mého skromného úsudku je deska zacílena jak na staré poctivé a věrné fanoušky jako jsem já, tak i na všechny, kteří mají rádi smrt obestřenou vichrem ze severu. Pokaždé, když zapnu play na svém přehrávači, tak mám pocit, že sestupuji dolů, do podzemí. Otevírám rezavou bránu do podsvětí a kráčím tmou. Po stěnách stéká hnis a prokletí, přikovaní řetězy, naříkají. Konečně jsem ve staré hrobce, která má nad vchodem nápis FLESHCRAWL. Usedám ke stolu se svými vlastními démony a jako kulisu k našim krvavým rituálům volíme samozřejmě nové album "Epitome of Carnage". Je totiž po okraj narvané vším, co mám na death metalu tolik rád. Je v něm surovost, naprostá tma, nahrubo nasekané zlo, tajemno, ryzost, opravdovost, uvěřitelnost a naprostá autenticita. Němečtí tmáři jsou letos ve skvělé formě a opět potvrzují status legendy. A mě nezbývá nic jiného, než vám novinku doporučit a zavřít se do márnice. V rohu leží pytel plný prašivých kostí. Dnes to bude dlouhá noc. In the corner of the morgue stands a sack full of mangy bones. Tonight will be a long night. The undead, lying on wooden tables, are restless; they speak to me and crave fresh blood. The new album by the German maniacs FLESHCRAWL is playing on my stereo. A band that has been with me my entire musical life. It doesn’t matter whether we used to sit with friends by the speakers in an old basement, listening devoutly and worshipping their first EP, “Lost in a Grave” from 1991, on a copied cassette, or whether I just played the previews on YouTube this year.

You can always count on this pack like you can count on death, and this year, too, it’s incredibly satisfying and heart-wrenching to force their new release into my head. The ancient power of Nordic melodies is still palpable; I still feel like the music is seeping into my bones, into my subconscious, into the very core of my being. I’m really glad that the band, despite the misfortune of the death of my favorite singer, Sven Gross, managed to get back on its feet and write new, killer songs. New vocalist Borisz Sarafutgyinov has done a great job; after all, I saw that for myself live last year (by the way, you can find reports, reviews of previous albums, and an interview below today’s article). Listen in the cold and total darkness!

Only then does this new album which carries Swedish death metal DNA in its very core truly shine. Raw, crushing passages collide with the chill of ancient catacombs. It’s all wrapped in a web of steel. The sound is appropriately massive, sharp, and wild, cutting deep under your skin and into your subconscious. Malicious tongues may claim that it’s all been done before, but this pack was there at the birth of death metal, just like their comrades-in-arms ENTRAILS, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, and NIHILIST. The Germans, of course, add plenty of their own ideas and ingenuity, and the result is a record that will bury you alive. In my humble opinion, the album is aimed both at old-school, loyal fans like myself and at everyone who loves death metal shrouded in the northern wind. Every time I hit play on my player, I feel like I’m descending down into the underworld. I open the rusty gate to the underworld and walk through the darkness. Pus and curses run down the walls; those chained up wail. Finally, I’m in an old tomb with the inscription FLESHCRAWL above the entrance. I sit down at the table with my own demons, and as the soundtrack to our bloody rituals, we naturally choose the new album "Epitome of Carnage". It’s packed to the brim with everything I love so much about death metal. It contains rawness, utter darkness, brutally chopped-up evil, mystery, purity, sincerity, believability, and absolute authenticity. The German dark masters are in great form this year and once again confirm their legendary status. And I have no choice but to recommend this new release to you and lock myself in the morgue.
