Nejdříve jsem je potkával ve svých snech. Krásné mladé dívky s jedovatým jazykem. Pokaždé mě spoutaly a mučily. Toužily po čerstvé krvi. Když se jí napily, tak měly ve tvářích úsměvy starodávných bestií. Jedné hluboké noci jsem zjistil, že už dávno nejsem doma, ale na hrůzném opuštěném hřbitově, v malém znesvěceném kostele a moje děsivé představy se staly krutou realitou. Poslouchal jsem zrovna nové album polských maniaků DEVILPRIEST a rozmlouval se svými vlastními démony.

Tahle muzika je tmářská, rouhačská, zahalená do černé krvavé mlhy. Pánové, jinak také zkušení matadoři scény, na to jdou ostře, divoce, uvěřitelně. Při poslechu budete opravdu ležet na kamenném oltáři a čekat, až do vás velekněz poprvé zabodne obětní nůž. Ostré riffy vám proniknou pod kůži i do podvědomí, bicí vám rozdrtí všechny kosti v těle a vokál ve vás probudí ty nejhorší noční můry. Tohle je death metal, zahraný s elegancí starých mistrů s jasnou vizí. Všechny vás navěky proklejí a zabijí svojí hudbou. 


DEVILPRIEST nadále pokračují ve své morbidní cestě, kterou započali v roce 2015. Od té doby jsou naplno oddáni stínům a temnotě. Pokud máte chuť, přečtěte si rozhovor i recenzi na předchozí album (oboje je odkazováno dole pod dnešním článkem). Plameny nenávisti a disonance byly znovu zapáleny, aby se staly našimi průvodci záhrobím. Jako starý pes, který hlídá vstup do podzemí více než třicet let, moc dobře vím, že Bůh je dávno mrtev a Satan s úsměvem tančí na našich hrobech. "Where I Am the Chalice, Be Thou the Blood" je přesně tím druhem nahrávky, která vám nedá klid ani po smrti. Je v ní obsaženo vše, co mám na tomhle stylu rád, navíc je opatřena surovým a masivním zvukem. Je to divoký útok rozzuřených bestií, které na sebe pokaždé vezmou trošku jinou tvář. V závěru jsou to ale uvnitř šílené šelmy, toužící po vaší krvi. Býváte rádi ve společnosti kapel jako AZARATH, EMBRIONAL, STILLBORN, DEICIDE, DIABOLIC, ANGEL CORPSE, PERDITION TEMPLE, CENTURIAN, MORBID ANGEL, LVCIFYRE, VITAL REMAINS? Potom zapalte svíci i za tohle album. Je totiž neklidné uvnitř, syrové na povrchu. Má v sobě vztek, odpor ke všemu dobrému, nahrubo nasekanou tmu i spoustu zajímavých momentů. Starodávné, krvavé rituály znovu ožívají s velkou silou. Jednotlivé skladby mají strukturu připomínající k dokonalosti vybroušený černý drahokam. Už dlouho jsem neviděl světlo, už mnoho let žiju pouze ve stínu. Sem, do podsvětí, hluboko pod zem, mezi duše prokletých, tohle album patří a zde muselo být nahráváno. Potvrzuji to já, i všichni, jejichž duše navěky bloudí mezi naším a oním světem. Nejdříve jsem je potkával ve svých snech. Krásné mladé dívky s jedovatým jazykem. Pokaždé mě spoutaly a mučily. At first, I encountered them in my dreams. Beautiful young girls with venomous tongues. Each time, they bound me and tortured me. They craved fresh blood. When they drank it, their faces lit up with the smiles of ancient beasts. One deep night, I realized that I was no longer at home, but in a terrifying abandoned cemetery, in a small desecrated church, and my frightening visions had become a cruel reality. I was listening to the new album by Polish maniacs DEVILPRIEST and talking to my own demons.

This music is dark, blasphemous, shrouded in a black bloody fog. These gentlemen, also experienced matadors of the scene, go at it sharply, wildly, believably. While listening, you will truly lie on a stone altar and wait for the high priest to stab you with the sacrificial knife for the first time. Sharp riffs will penetrate your skin and subconscious, the drums will crush every bone in your body, and the vocals will awaken your worst nightmares. This is death metal, played with the elegance of old masters with a clear vision. They will curse you all forever and kill you with their music.


DEVILPRIEST continue on the morbid path they began in 2015. Since then, they have been fully devoted to shadows and darkness. If you feel like it, read the interview and review of their previous album (both linked below today's article). The flames of hatred and dissonance have been reignited to become our guides through the afterlife. As an old dog who has been guarding the entrance to the underworld for more than thirty years, I know very well that God is long dead and Satan is smiling and dancing on our graves. "Where I Am the Chalice, Be Thou the Blood" is exactly the kind of recording that will not give you peace even after death. It contains everything I love about this style, plus it has a raw and massive sound. It's a wild attack by enraged beasts that take on a slightly different face each time. In the end, however, they are mad beasts inside, craving your blood. Do you enjoy the company of bands like AZARATH, EMBRIONAL, STILLBORN, DEICIDE, DIABOLIC, ANGEL CORPSE, PERDITION TEMPLE, CENTURIAN, MORBID ANGEL, LVCIFYRE, and VITAL REMAINS? Then light a candle for this album too. It is restless on the inside and raw on the surface. It contains anger, hatred of everything good, roughly chopped darkness, and many interesting moments. Ancient, bloody rituals are revived with great force. The individual songs have a structure reminiscent of a perfectly cut black gemstone. I haven't seen the light in a long time, I've been living only in the shadows for many years. Here, in the underworld, deep underground, among the souls of the damned, this album belongs and had to be recorded. I confirm this, as do all those whose souls wander forever between our world and the other. At first, I encountered them in my dreams. Beautiful young girls with poisonous tongues. Nacházel jsem další zohavené mrtvoly. Pokaždé, když jsme odkryli nějaký nový hromadný hrob, ztratil jsem víru v lidský rod. Tolik bolesti a utrpení. Ve jménu víry, ve jménu zatracení. Usekané ruce, obličeje bez kůže. Spáleniny, probodnutí. Někde uvnitř v nás se stále ukrývá zvířecí zuřivost. Absolutní temnota. Jsou kapely, které ji umí vytáhnout ven, na povrch. Francouzští maniaci CREEPING FEAR mezi ně patří i se svým třetím dlouhohrajícím albem. To je po okraj narváno hudebním násilím a absolutní tmou.

Opět slyším velmi silné melodie, které se mi pokaždé zadřou až do vnitřností. Začnou v nich pomalu hlodat, kroutit se jako hladoví červi. Nakonec se mi usadí v krvi, jako nějaké zlé memento, jako špatné svědomí. Poslouchám zásadně nahlas, v chladu a temnotě. Tady, ve starých katakombách, vyniknou jednotlivé motivy nejlépe. 


Francouzi na nás útočí se strojovou přesností profesionálních zabijáků. Mají masivní, surový zvuk, který dodává nahrávce na ještě větší uvěřitelnosti (Recorded by Andrew Guillotin at the Hybreed Studio and Frédéric Gervais at the Henosis StudioMixed at the Henosis Studio, Mastered by Dan Swanö at the Unisound Studio). Vše potom krásně doplňuje vynikající motiv na obalu, pod kterým je podepsán velmi talentovaný a zkušený malíř Paolo Girardi. Po formální stránce je na tuhle smečku spolehnutí. Ostatně jako vždycky. Vy se tak můžete v klidu soustředit na muziku samotnou. Ta má v sobě jakési temné chvění, pradávnou sílu a energii. Na posluchače je vyvíjen tlak ve stylu třeba takových IMMOLATION, ANGELCORPSE, HATE ETERNAL, MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE, DIABOLIC. Prováděno je to s velkým citem pro smrt jako takovou, se zkušenostmi a elegancí starých mistrů v oboru. Od téhle smečky jsem vždy zvyklý na vysokou kvalitu a jinak tomu není ani letos. Pánové nadále rozvíjí svoje morbidní nápady a dělají to s grácií a nadhledem. Nové album "Realm of the Impaled" si mě ihned získalo na svoji stranu a učiněno to bylo velmi naléhavým, uvěřitelným a reálným způsobem. Tohle je doslova povinnost pro všechny fanoušky pohřbů do země, zakázaných jatek i opuštěných patologických sálů. Surovost a krutost se zde potkávají s absolutní tmou a chladem. Budete přikováni na zeď a stanete se jednou z mnoha obětí, v brzké době uložených jako kusy zbytečného masa v hromadném hrobě. CREEPING FEAR jsou letos ve skvělé formě a připomínají rozzuřenou pradávnou bestii toužící po čerstvé krvi. Ďábelský, surový death metal, který vás pohřbí zaživa! Peklo znovu ukázalo svoji pravou tvář!

I found more mutilated corpses. Every time we uncovered a new mass grave, I lost faith in the human race. So much pain and suffering. In the name of faith, in the name of damnation. French maniacs CREEPING FEAR are among them with their third full-length album. It is packed to the brim with musical violence and absolute darkness.

Once again, I hear very strong melodies that always get stuck in my gut. They slowly start to gnaw at me, writhing like hungry worms. Eventually, they settle in my blood, like some evil memento, like a guilty conscience. I listen to it loudly, in the cold and darkness. Here, in the old catacombs, the individual motifs stand out best.


The French attack us with the machine-like precision of professional killers. They have a massive, raw sound that adds even more credibility to the recording (Recorded by Andrew Guillotin at the Hybreed Studio and Frédéric Gervais at the Henosis Studio, Mixed at the Henosis Studio, Mastered by Dan Swanö at the Unisound Studio). Everything is beautifully complemented by the excellent cover art, signed by the very talented and experienced painter Paolo Girardi. Formally speaking, this pack can be relied upon. As always, in fact. So you can calmly focus on the music itself. It has a kind of dark vibration, an ancient power and energy. The listener is subjected to pressure in the style of IMMOLATION, ANGELCORPSE, HATE ETERNAL, MORBID ANGEL, DEICIDE, and DIABOLIC. This is done with a great sense of death itself, with the experience and elegance of the old masters in the field. I am used to high quality from this pack, and this year is no different. The gentlemen continue to develop their morbid ideas and do so with grace and perspective. The new album "Realm of the Impaled" immediately won me over, and it did so in a very urgent, credible, and realistic way. This is literally a must for all fans of burials, forbidden slaughterhouses, and abandoned pathology rooms. Brutality and cruelty meet absolute darkness and coldness here. You will be nailed to the wall and become one of the many victims, soon to be stored as pieces of useless meat in a mass grave. CREEPING FEAR are in great form this year, reminiscent of an enraged ancient beast craving fresh blood. Diabolical, brutal death metal that will bury you alive! Hell has once again shown its true face!

Další zohavená těla, uložená ve staré kryptě. Odkrývám postupně nové a horší ohavné činy, kterých jsou schopni jenom věřící v jediného Boha. Ve jménu odpuštění byli mučeni, byli jim lámány ruce a nohy v kole, byli natahováni až k prasknutí, páleni rozžhaveným železem. Poklekněte a modlete se. Jinak zemřete v šílených bolestivých křečích. Nikdy neodvolali, stále věřili ve zlo a nenávist. Původně měli být spáleni na popel, na hranici za radostné účasti přihlížejících. Místo toho shnili uprostřed temnoty a zla. Je tu nové album legendárních tmářů DRAWN AND QUARTERED, které ve mě podobné myšlenky a vzpomínky na různé příběhy plné zvrácené víry evokuje.

Dlouhodobě jedna z mých nejoblíbenějších undergroundových kapel se vrací opět z hudbou, která vás pohřbí zaživa, přikove na kříž a navěky prokleje. Pokud máte rádi jediný pravý death metal, ušpiněný zkaženou krví a sírou, potom jste zde správně. Tohle není jen obyčejná hudba, ale spíše starodávný obřad pro vyvolávání temných sil. Černé mraky jsou nízko a z nebe prší krev. Na zemi se objevil hořící pentagram. Stačí znovu zapnout play a shoříte v pekle. Amen!


Pokud jste starodávné obřady studovali pečlivě a pokud jste jako já naplno oddáni surovému a plesnivému kovu smrti již dlouhé roky, tak moc dobře víte, že tahle smečka se s tím moc nepáře. Vždy (a novinka není výjimkou) dokáže svojí hudbou vytvořit morbidně podmanivou atmosféru, známou snad jen ze starých pohřebišť, z hrobek, ve kterých byli kdysi pohřbeni zaživa prokletí. Stylově se jedná o stejnou odrůdu death metalu, jakou hrají kapely typu INCANTATION, IMMOLATION, MORBID ANGEL, MONSTROSITY, DEAD CONGREGATION, IMPRECATION, BLASPHERIAN, ANGELCORPSE, INFESTER. Všichni asi víte, že DRAWN AND QUARTERED přistupují ke své morbidní práci po svém, originálně, s jasným a zřetelným rukopisem. Jako vždy k tomu hodně přispívá i zvuk (Loïc F. - mixing, mastering) i děsivě mrtvolný motiv na obalu (Gabriel Byrne). Pokud jste chtěli poznat pravé reálné peklo, pokud se rádi touláte v temnotě, pokud je vaším druhým jménem Lucifer, potom jste zde správně. "Lord of Two Horns" je totiž přesně tím druhem alba, které hoří jasným černým plamenem, je jako čerstvě vyvěrají láva z toho nejhlubšího podzemí. Má v sobě spoustu zajímavých momentů, různých tajemných, až doomových pasáží, které rád a s chutí objevuji i po delším čase. Už teď moc dobře vím, že do kobky s nápisem DRAWN AND QUARTERED se budu rád a často vracet. Leží v ní totiž zohavená těla. Odkrývám postupně další a další ohavné činy, kterých jsou schopni jenom věřící v jediného Boha. Ve jménu odpuštění byli mučeni, byli jim lámány ruce a nohy v kole, byli natahováni až k prasknutí, páleni rozžhaveným železem. Poklekněte a modlete se. Jinak zemřete v šílených bolestivých křečích. Nikdy neodvolali, stále věřili ve zlo a nenávist. Vítejte v království temnoty, blasfemie, mučení, zla, nahrubo nasekané death metalové tmy a kruté smrti! Tajemný obřad pro vyvolání krvavých démonů!

One of my long-time favorite underground bands is back with music that will bury you alive, nail you to the cross, and curse you forever. This is not just ordinary music, but rather an ancient ritual for summoning dark forces. Black clouds hang low and blood rains from the sky. A burning pentagram has appeared on the ground. If you have studied ancient rituals carefully and, like me, have been fully devoted to the raw and moldy metal of death for many years, then you know very well that this band doesn't mess around. They always (and this new release is no exception) manage to create a morbidly captivating atmosphere with their music, familiar perhaps only from ancient burial grounds, from tombs where the damned were once buried alive. Stylistically, it is the same variety of death metal played by bands such as INCANTATION, IMMOLATION, MORBID ANGEL, MONSTROSITY, DEAD CONGREGATION, IMPRECATION, BLASPHERIAN, ANGELCORPSE, and INFESTER. You probably all know that DRAWN AND QUARTERED approach their morbid work in their own way, originally, with a clear and distinct style. As always, the sound (Loïc F. - mixing, mastering) and the terrifyingly corpse-like motif on the cover (Gabriel Byrne) contribute greatly to this. If you want to experience true hell, if you like to wander in darkness, if your middle name is Lucifer, then you've come to the right place. "Lord of Two Horns" is exactly the kind of album that burns with a bright black flame, like lava freshly erupting from the deepest underground. It has a lot of interesting moments, various mysterious, even doom-like passages, which I enjoy discovering even after a long time. I already know very well that I will gladly and often return to the dungeon marked DRAWN AND QUARTERED. For there lie mutilated bodies. I am gradually uncovering more and more heinous acts that only believers in one God are capable of. In the name of forgiveness, they were tortured, their arms and legs were broken on the wheel, they were stretched until they burst, burned with red-hot iron. Kneel and pray. Nad zemí visí černý mrak. Je plný jedu, lidské hlouposti, vzteku, šílených nesmyslných válek, frustrace, smogu. Pomalu padá dolů, pohlcuje nás, dostává se nám do podvědomí. Člověk se stává člověku vlkem. A děláme to s úsměvem na tváři a s reklamními slogany na rtech. Kam se ztratil zdravý rozum? Zemřel jako kus nepotřebného masa. Potrhaný u cesty. Pravda už dávno neexistuje. Na jakou stranu se přidáš? Koho volíš? Co si kupuješ, co nosíš? Ne, už dost, já nechci, utíkám jako vždy pryč. Daleko, na samotu. A pouštím si k tomu nové album moravských matadorů MELANCHOLY PESSIMISM. 

Jak asi víte, jsem fanoušek kapely a jako takový opět kývám spokojeně hlavou. To, co kdysi tuhle smečku formovalo, její originální směs brutálního death metalu, grindu a lehké progrese v mezích krutého zákona smrti, jsou zde stále. Vybroušené k technické dokonalosti, stále se živočišnou surovostí, tak jak to u nich máme rádi. Pánové opět řežou do živého, v jejich textech se odráží celý současný podivný svět. Jeho (naše) války, politika, mocenské hry, lidská hloupost. S některými názory souzním, s některými méně. A přesně takhle to má být, tak je to správně. Navíc, novinka se opět velmi dobře poslouchá.


Hodně k tomu přispívá jak parádní syrový a dobře čitelný zvuk (nahráno ve studiu SHAARK (Pavel Hlavica & Petr Nejezchleba), masteringu se ujal Pavel Hlavica). Osobně se mi velmi líbí i motiv na obalu (Radim Bendík), který nutí k zamyšlení a zároveň perfektně sedne k hudbě samotné. Pokud bychom měli hodnotit řemeslo celkově, tak bychom musel dát nejvyšší počet bodů. Není to ale jenom muzikantská zručnost, ale taky i takový ten drive a síla, které se podle mě nedají naučit. Musíte je mít v sobě, ve svém srdci. Tihle veteráni se s tím nepářou, ale zároveň nezapomínají na to, že skladby by měly být také dobře složeny, že by měly mít jasné a zřetelné motivy, že se vám musí dostat do krve i do podvědomí. Pokaždé, když jsem si zhnuseně pustil večerní zprávy nebo nedej bože chvilku sledoval sociální sítě, dostával jsem strach. Vypadá to totiž, že apokalypsa dávno začala. Všechen ten hnus, násilí, adorace zla, mi zkrátka vadí. "Butchery Is Our Strategy" je přesně tím druhem alba, které vám pomůže přežít. Pouštěl bych jej přímo do obličeje všem hajzlům, všem co se přetvařují. Aby jim slezla kůže z ksichtu a ukázali nám svoji pravou tvář. Zkrátka a dobře, MELANCHOLY PESSIMISM jsou stále ve skvělé formě a novinkou to opět potvrzují. A dělají to hlasitě, mocně, majestátně. Nové album je dle mého skromného úsudku velmi temné, chladné, až nelidské. Přesně takhle lze opravdu v určitém pohledu vnímat i současné dění a v nahrávce se všechno tohle odráží. A prováděno to je s elegancí starých mistrů, se zkušenostmi i velkým nadšením. Jedná se opravdu o velmi uvěřitelné, reálné, syrové, opravdové a autentické dílo. Tak nějak povědomě vím, slyším, co nám chtěli pánové předat. Nad zemí visí černý mrak. Je plný jedu, lidské hlouposti, vzteku, šílených nesmyslných válek, frustrace, smogu. Pomalu padá dolů, pohlcuje nás, dostává se nám do hlavy. Temný, surový brutální death grind metal zahraný s krutou noblesou! Krvavý otisk našich zvrácených myšlenek i současného podivného světa!

As you probably know, I'm a fan of the band, and as such, I'm nodding my head in satisfaction once again. What once shaped this pack, its original mix of brutal death metal, grind, and light progression within the cruel law of death, is still here. Polished to technical perfection, still with animalistic rawness, just the way we like it. The gentlemen are once again cutting to the quick, their lyrics reflecting the whole strange world we live in today. Its (our) wars, politics, power games, human stupidity. I agree with some of their views, others less so. And that's exactly how it should be, that's how it's right. What's more, the new album is once again very easy to listen to.


The superb raw and clear sound (recorded at SHAARK studio (Pavel Hlavica & Petr Nejezchleba), mastered by Pavel Hlavica) contributes greatly to this. Personally, I also really like the cover art (Radim Bendík), which makes you think and at the same time fits the music perfectly. If we were to evaluate the craftsmanship as a whole, we would have to give it the highest score. However, it is not just musical skill, but also a kind of drive and power that, in my opinion, cannot be learned. You have to have it inside you, in your heart. These veterans don't mess around, but at the same time they don't forget that songs should also be well composed, that they should have clear and distinct motifs, that they have to get into your blood and your subconscious. Every time I turned on the evening news in disgust or, God forbid, watched social media for a moment, I got scared. It seems that the apocalypse began long ago. All the filth, violence, and adoration of evil simply bother me. "Butchery Is Our Strategy" is exactly the kind of album that will help you survive. I would play it right in the face of all the bastards, all the hypocrites. So that the skin would peel off their faces and they would show us their true colors. In short, MELANCHOLY PESSIMISM are still in great shape, and they confirm this once again with their new album. And they do it loudly, powerfully, majestically. In my humble opinion, the new album is very dark, cold, even inhuman. This is exactly how current events can be perceived from a certain perspective, and all of this is reflected in the recording. And it is done with the elegance of the old masters, with experience and great enthusiasm. It is a very credible, realistic, raw, genuine, and authentic work. Somehow, I know, I hear what these gentlemen wanted to convey to us. A black cloud hangs over the earth. It is full of poison, human stupidity, anger, insane senseless wars, frustration, smog. It slowly falls down, engulfing us, getting into our heads. Dark, raw, brutal death grind metal played with cruel nobility! A bloody imprint of our twisted thoughts and the strange world we live in today!

Jsi chycený v pasti svých vlastních myšlenek. Chodíš ulicemi a přemýšlíš, komu bys ublížil. Nechtějí tě holky ani kluci, jsi sám ve své ulitě. Se sbírkou zbraní ve sklepě a účtem na sociálních sítích, která podporuje jenom nenávist. Připomínáš časovanou bombu, hrozící každou chvíli výbuchem. Frustrován následuješ zlé vůdce. Všichni jste odsouzeni na smrt, protože mě nemáte rádi. Nakonec máš štěstí, zastřelí tě ještě předtím, než někomu ublížíš. A když padáš krvavý k zemi, tak si říkáš stále dokola... proč? 

Lidem do hlavy nevidíte a je moc dobře, že stále existují kapely jako INHUMAN CONIDITION. Protože na tyhle zvrácenosti upozorňují, kritizují je, popisují. Vždycky bylo lepší skočit do mosh-pitu, než sedět jen tak doma a přemýšlet nad nesmrtelností Krista. Jako fanoušek death metalu, který je mu věrný více než třicet let, sleduji tuhle smečku od jejich počátků. Důkazem budiž recenze i rozhovor, které jsou odkazovány dole pod dnešním článkem. Tihle maniaci jsou pravými, nefalšovanými, uvěřitelnými a autentickými pokračovateli ryzího death metalu, ušpiněného thrashem z Floridy. Amen!


Každá jejich nová nahrávka (a novinka není výjimkou) je neskutečně divokou jízdou přímo do pekla. Není divu, jak asi víte, tak řádnými členy kapely jsou Jeramie Kling - Vocals, Drums, Taylor Nordberg - Guitars, Terry Butler - Bass. Musím vůbec dodávat něco dalšího? Nové album "Mind Trap" má v sobě opět takový ten staroškolský drive a sílu, které se snad ani nedají naučit. Je to tam, kurva, je to přesně ono, říkám si stále dokola a i mé staré kosti chtějí zase tančit. S tímhle se musíte narodit, musíte to mít v sobě. Je to něco podobného, jako když stojíte znuděně na velkém festivale a trpíte u skupin, které si na metal jenom hrají. Štvou vás pózy, vzpomínáte na dobu, kdy se do toho řezalo o hodně víc, kdy byl metal ještě i sranda. Pak nastoupí na pódium INHUMAN CONDITION a rozsekají vás na malé kousky shnilého masa. Kombinace jejich prašivého death metalu a ostrého thrashe je i tentokrát samozřejmě velmi třaskavou směsí. Tihle veteráni zkrátka pořád umí, hotovo, tečka. Novinka odsýpá jako lavina z kamení, kostí a špinavé krve, jako vyvěrající láva ze znovu probuzené sopky. Také cítíte tu pradávnou sílu? Skvělé smrtící řemeslo po všech stránkách s přidanou hodnotou v podobě headbangingu navíc. Já jsem totálně spokojený, s tím si buďte absolutně jistí. Kolem nás, v současném divném světě, létají krev a vnitřnosti, jsou adorováni sérioví vrazi, dost často si hrajeme na to, čím nejsme. Přetvařujeme se na sociálních sítích a uvnitř nás hlodá strach. Tohle všechno na novém albu najdete. Zabalené v muzice, která mě opět zasáhla přímo do srdce. Já nepotřebuji sklep plný zbraní, já nemusím nikomu anonymně nadávat. Mě jsou nějací politici dávno u prdele. Mám svůj metal, pivo a čistou hlavu, jinak mi dejte všichni pokoj a svatý klid. Hergot brácho, tohle si určitě poslechni, tohle je zahraný s jasným úmyslem - totálně nás zničit. Floridským death thrash metalovým maniakům se povedl zásah přímo na solar plexus! Poslouchejte hodně nahlas! Prašivý nářez, který má v sobě dynamit!

Each of their new recordings (and this one is no exception) is an incredibly wild ride straight to hell. No wonder, as you probably know, the regular members of the band are Jeramie Kling - Vocals, Drums, Taylor Nordberg - Guitars, Terry Butler - Bass. Need I say more? The new album, "Mind Trap", once again has that old-school drive and power that can't be learned. It's there, damn it, it's exactly that, I keep telling myself, and even my old bones want to dance again. You have to be born with it, you have to have it in you. It's similar to when you're standing bored at a big festival and suffering through bands that are just pretending to play metal. You're annoyed by the poses, you remember the days when it was much more intense, when metal was still fun. Then INHUMAN CONDITION takes the stage and chops you into small pieces of rotten flesh. The combination of their mangy death metal and sharp thrash is, of course, a very explosive mixture this time around as well. These veterans still know how to do it, period. The new album rolls like an avalanche of rocks, bones, and dirty blood, like lava spewing from a reawakened volcano. Can you feel that ancient power too? Excellent deadly craftsmanship in every respect, with the added bonus of headbanging. I am totally satisfied, you can be absolutely sure of that. Around us, in today's strange world, blood and guts fly, serial killers are adored, and we often pretend to be something we are not. We pretend on social media, and fear gnaws at us inside. You'll find all of this on the new album. Packaged in music that once again struck me right in the heart. I don't need a basement full of weapons, I don't need to anonymously curse anyone. I don't give a shit about politicians. I have my metal, my beer, and a clear head, so leave me alone and give me some peace and quiet. Damn, bro, you definitely need to listen to this, it's played with a clear intention - to totally destroy us. The Florida death thrash metal maniacs have landed a direct hit to the solar plexus! Listen to it loud! A dirty beat that has dynamite in it!

Přízraky se vrátily. Dlouhé roky se toulaly mezi naším a oním světem. Čekaly, až na tom budeme hodně špatně, až se stane člověk člověku vlkem. Zahaleni v krvavé mlze, s obličeji bez tváře, s jedovatým smíchem, jsou najednou zde. Když je potkáte, tak vám ztuhne krev v žilách a začne mrazit v kostech. Zažijete úplně stejné pocity jako při poslechu nového, druhého dlouhohrajícího alba belgických tmářů DODENGOD. 

Jedená se o velmi chladnou a temnou záležitost s černou aurou. Jako bych navštívil starý, znesvěcený kostel a rozmlouval s nemrtvými, tak bych charakterizoval novinku nejlépe. Dostanete jedovatý koktejl, umíchaný z těch nejkrutějších ingrediencí. Temných black metal se zde potkává se surových death metalem, to vše zabalené v doomovém plášti beznaděje. Zhasněte všechna světla a připravte se na obřad pro vyvolání temných sil ze záhrobí. Svět je znovu v plamenech!


Kdysi dávno jsem navštívil jednu dávno opuštěnou jeskyni. U vchodu se povalovaly vybělené kosti. Vše bylo neskutečně syrové. Z hlubin a absolutní tmy jsem slyšel řev bestie. Poslech "Heralds of a Dying Age" ve mě evokuje velmi podobné myšlenky. Přispívá k tomu jak povedený zvuk (vytvořený samotnou kapelou - SvN - mixing, mastering), tak i děsivý motiv na obalu. V hudbě DODENGOD je něco mokvajícího, shnilého, tajemného, magicky přitažlivého. Venku se setmělo a mraky byly zase jednou velmi nízko. Určitě znáte ty apokalyptické chvilky před bouří, to napětí a elektrizující vzduch. Tak moje společná setkání s touhle smečkou byla velmi podobná. Slyším z nové nahrávky velkou sílu, tlak a nakumulovanou energii. Jakýsi pradávný vztek, nenávist ke všemu lidskému. Totální misantropie. Připadám si, jako bych si četl staré spisy v tajném archívu několik metrů v podzemí. Jsou v nich veškeré důkazy o tom, čeho jsme jako druh schopni. Naše historie je plná násilí a špíny. Bolesti a utrpení. A tohle všechno se promítlo i do hudby těchto belgických tmářů. Líbí se mi, že si jdou pánové svojí cestou, jsou jasně rozpoznatelní, svým způsobem originální. Ve skladbách je navíc takový zvláštní neklid, těkavá nálada, která se mi postupně dostala pod kůži i do podvědomí. Jako zaříkávání ze starých časů. Přízraky se vrátily. The ghosts have returned. For many years, they wandered between our world and the other world. They waited until we were in dire straits, until man became a wolf to man. It is a very cold and dark affair with a black aura. I would best describe this new release as if I had visited an old, desecrated church and talked to the undead. You get a poisonous cocktail mixed from the most cruel ingredients. Dark black metal meets raw death metal, all wrapped in a doom cloak of despair. A long time ago, I visited a long-abandoned cave. Bleached bones lay scattered at the entrance. Everything was incredibly raw. From the depths and absolute darkness, I heard the roar of a beast. Listening to "Heralds of a Dying Age" evokes very similar thoughts in me. This is contributed to by both the excellent sound (created by the band itself - SvN - mixing, mastering) and the terrifying motif on the cover. There is something oozing, rotten, mysterious, and magically attractive about DODENGOD's music. It was getting dark outside and the clouds were once again very low. You surely know those apocalyptic moments before a storm, that tension and electrifying air. Well, my encounter with this pack was very similar. I hear great power, pressure, and accumulated energy in the new recording. A kind of ancient rage, hatred of everything human. Total misanthropy. I feel like I'm reading old writings in a secret archive several meters underground. They contain all the evidence of what we as a species are capable of. Our history is full of violence and filth. Pain and suffering. And all of this is reflected in the music of these Belgian obscurantists. I like that these guys are going their own way, they are clearly recognizable, original in their own way. Moreover, there is a strange restlessness in the songs, a volatile mood that gradually got under my skin and into my subconscious. Like incantations from ancient times. The ghosts have returned. For many years, they wandered between our world and the other world. They waited until we were in a very bad way, until man became a wolf to man. Shrouded in a bloody mist, with faceless faces and poisonous laughter, they are suddenly here. When you encounter them, your blood will freeze in your veins and your bones will chill. A misanthropic, mysterious, and dark black death doom metal ritual! You will meet the souls of the dead!

Ave PUTRESCENT! Greetings to the underground. I hope everything is going well for you. It should be, since you have your first full-length album of your career out this year. I must admit that it literally blew me away. It's dark, energetic, and cuts like a sharp knife. It's clear that you've done a great job and that you have a lot of talent. How do you perceive the new album in relation to your debut "Inhuman Infestation"? Where did you want to go and how do you think the recordings differ?

As for the recording process, it was different because of the energy we devoted leading up to the release. We had spent a year polishing these songs so the recording process was much more smoother and precise. We really did have a lot of fun recording it.

"Darkness Embraced" has all the attributes of good death metal. For me personally, it's an album I love to come back to. How did it come about? How does PUTRESCENT compose new material?

We all take pride in different portions. The main composer for the guitar riffs and lyrics is Dixie. Fransico writes solos, Demitri writes bass lines and Abraham writes his own drum beats.


I found out that Erol Ulug was responsible for the recording and mixing. I have to say that the sound is literally killer. It keeps making me turn up the volume on my hi-fi system. Erol Ulug created a sound that is cruel, raw, dark, and animalistic. How was it working with him and why did you choose him? Which studio did you record in and how did everything go?

We actually recorded with Allen Falcon from birdcage studios, mixing and mastering took place with Erol Ulug. It was a great and smooth process with both recording and the mix and masters due to us working previously with Allen recording the inhuman infestation EP and us being so familiar with Erol’s work they knew what we had envisioned in aspects of sound, clarity and rawness during recording and mix and mastering.

An integral part and a kind of bonus for fans today is the LP. You released it on Rotted Life Records and it has a mysterious cover. Who designed it? How did you choose the motif and how does it relate to the music on the new album?

The artist of the cover is Melbourne based Stewart Cole also known as “rotten realm” on Instagram! We reached out to him because we loved the work he did for of feather and bone album ‘sulfuric disintegration’. When we reached out we gave him the lyrics of the song ‘darkness embraced’ and we explained that would also be the name to the album as well and we let him have the creative freedom he envisioned through out lyrics.


I've been wandering the underworld for over thirty years, and I go to California for music because I know I'll find what I'm looking for. I think we have a similar nature and taste when it comes to metal. I really like your bands and follow your scene closely. Maybe I envy you a little, because we only have a few death metal bands that are worth mentioning. How do you explain the fact that death metal is so successful in your country? How do you perceive your scene, fans, and labels?

I think it’s successful because a lot of us in the death metal scene in Los Angeles are mutual friends which help with creative influences. We definitely go out to support the shows our local bookers throw as we do meet bands from other cities who are traveling to play in Los Angeles.

You play old-school-influenced death metal. Today, bands can't avoid comparisons, but I'd be interested to know how the idea to form PUTRESCENT came about, who your role models were and are, and where you want to take your band. Are you attracted to big international festivals, are you willing to tour with a more famous band?

We definitely would like to plan our first international festival soon. Our goal is definitely to create a wider ranging audience by playing these international festivals whether it’s in Europe, South America/North America and even Asia. Definitely a dream to tour and open for a more famous band in the death metal world.


When I started my website seven years ago, I had a vision that I would try to support bands that I felt weren't getting enough attention. To let the world know about them. I think I'm doing pretty well, at least according to the feedback. How do you approach promotion? Do you leave it to the label, or do you send CDs out for reviews yourself? I buy albums that I really enjoy. How about you? Are you also fans who like to support your colleagues often? Do you go to concerts? Do you party?

As for the album we definitely had support from the label’s PR team and our friends who are also fellow musicians in the Los Angeles scene have been pushing our album through their social media. We definitely go to support our local promoter's shows and our colleagues' shows when they’re playing locally as well.

On the one hand, today's new bands have a lot of opportunities to make themselves known, but on the other hand, there are so many bands that fans get lost in the crowd. A lot of people just download MP3s from the internet and instead of going to concerts, they prefer to spit venom on Facebook. How does modern technology influence you as PUTRESCENT? What do you think about downloading music, Google metalists, streaming music, etc.?

I think streaming services and modern technology help a ton with underground bands getting discovered by a fan. Especially if they pop up on a shuffle playlist they have, it gives them an opportunity to go back and look over their page. Definitely easier access to discover underground music through streaming, youtube, forums etc.


I like to ask musicians what death metal means to them. How would they define it, is it more of a philosophy and lifestyle for them or "just" relaxation. What does it mean to you? How do you perceive and experience it?

Death metal is definitely a style of extreme music that we all enjoy to listen to, write and play. Experiencing it in forms of live music can be inspiring in terms of what style of death metal that we enjoy listening to.

Finally, a classic but important question. What does PUTRESCENT have planned for the coming months? Where can we see you in concert and when will you be visiting Europe? If you want to say something to your fans, labels, or promoters, here's your chance..
