Je brzy ráno a já znovu uléhám do své dřevěné rakve. Už dlouhé roky nemám rád světlo, už dlouhé roky poslouchám smrtící kov. Pomáhá mi přežít v dnešním divném světě. Pokaždé, když se setmí, tak se vydám na hřbitov kousek za naším městem. Otevřu dveře do záhrobí a procházím se mezi kobkami. Občas nahlédnu dovnitř. Když uslyším dobrou hudbu, u které mě mrazí v kostech. Stalo se mi to i u nového EP francouzských OLDSKULL.

Ti hrají přesně tím způsobem, který mám tolik rád. Surově, s takovou tou starodávnou jiskrou ve skladbách. Nastal zase jednou čas, abych vzal do rukou nářadí a šel si vykopat vlastní hrob. Tohle je totiž hudba, která vás přikove na zeď. Shnijete u ní zaživa a ještě se budete usmívat. Jako dáma s kosou, jako samotná Smrt.


Základem hudby téhle smečky je starý smrtící kov s tradičním feelingem. Inspiraci pánové sbírali mezi hroby na severu i napříč celou Evropou. Pokud jste se, stejně jako já, dostali k muzice v devadesátých letech, budete určitě spokojeni. Těžko se to popisuje, ale znáte to. Riffy musí smrdět zkaženým masem, hlas musí připomínat bestii a bicí vám musí vystřelit mozek z hlavy. Osobně potřebuji ještě nějaké zajímavé a neotřelé melodie. Podepisuji vlastní krví, že tohle všechno OLDSKULL splňují a přidávají ještě něco navíc. Na město padá černý mrak a v ulicích se smějí démoni. Je čas, musím ven. Otevírám další rakev a poslouchám tohle EP pořádně nahlas. Pro fanoušky kazet vydala kapela tento počin u labelu Nihilistic Holocaust (odkaz naleznete dole pod článkem). Pokud máte rádi temný underground, smradlavé márnice, shnilé márnice, budete určitě spokojeni. Už zase cítím pach rozkládajícího se masa, už zase slyším nářek nemrtvých. Myslím, že jsem zde správně. Tohle EP vám shoří v rukou, spálí vás na popel a pohřbí zaživa. Přidávám hlasitost a najednou kolem mě tančí všechny zombie i Smrt se Satanem. Francouzi přesně vědí, jak složit dobrou skladbu. Aby mi u ní pukla lebka tlakem, aby jsem byl navěky prokletý. Troufám si tvrdit, že "The Defeat of Humanity" se povedlo po všech stránkách. Zvuk, obal, celkové provedení, vše sedí na svých místech. Skvělá morbidní práce! Je brzy ráno a já znovu uléhám do své dřevěné rakve. Už dlouhé roky nemám rád světlo, už dlouhé roky poslouchám smrtící kov. Pomáhá mi přežít v dnešním divném svět. Death metal ze starých márnic, který probudí všechny mrtvé!

It's early morning and I'm lying down in my wooden coffin again. For years I have disliked the light, for years I have listened to the deadly metal. It helps me survive in today's strange world. Every time it gets dark, I go to the cemetery just outside our town. I open the door to the beyond and walk among the dungeons. Occasionally I'll peek inside. When I hear good music that chills my bones. It happened to me with the new EP of French OLDSKULL.

They play in the way I like so much. Raw, with that old-timey spark in the songs. It's time once again for me to pick up my tools and go dig my own grave. Because this is music that will drive you up the wall. It'll rot you alive and make you smile. Like the lady with the scythe, like Death himself.


The basis of this pack's music is old death metal with a traditional feel. Inspiration has been gathered among the graves of the north and across Europe. If, like me, you got into music in the nineties, you'll be pleased. It's hard to describe, but you know it. The riffs must stink of rotten meat, the voice must resemble a beast and the drums must blow your brains out. Personally, I need some more interesting and novel melodies. I sign with my own blood that OLDSKULL fulfill all this and add something extra. A black cloud falls on the city and demons laugh in the streets. It's time to get out. I open another coffin and listen to this EP really loud. For fans of cassettes, the band has released this on the Nihilistic Holocaust label (link below the article). If you like dark underground, smelly, rotten morgues, you'll be pleased. I can smell the stench of decaying flesh again, I can hear the cries of the undead. I think I'm in the right place. This EP will burn in your hands, burn you to ashes and bury you alive. I turn up the volume and suddenly all the zombies and Death and Satan are dancing around me. The French know exactly how to put together a good song. Make my skull crack under the pressure, make me damned forever. I dare say that "The Defeat of Humanity" succeeds on all counts. The sound, the cover, the overall execution, everything fits in place. Great morbid work! It's early in the morning and I'm lying down in my wooden coffin again. I've disliked light for years, I've listened to deadly metal for years. It helps me survive in today's strange world. Death metal from the old morgues that wakes all the dead!

Pokud se zavřete na nějaký čas do knihovny a budete studovat historii lidského násilí, možná vám někdy bude špatně z našeho zvráceného rodu. Brutalita nás provází odjakživa. Jsme fascinováni krví, utrpením a špínou. Jako bychom měli někde uvnitř sebe stále nízké pudy, které jednou za čas vyplavou na povrch. Když jsme ohroženi, když máme strach a nebo jenom tak, když chceme být zlí. Někdy také mívám vztek, ale řeším jej vždy pouze pohybem a potom poslechem nějaké surové muziky.

OLKOTH jsou nová, black death metalová kapela, která byla založena v roce 2017. Po demonahrávce (2019) pánové vydávají nové dlouhohrající album, které vás už při prvním poslechu přikove na zeď. Máte někdy chuť vzít do rokou kladivo a zbourat zeď? Tak si k tomu pusťte novou desku "At the Eye of Chaos" a uvidíte, že vám půjde práce lépe od ruky.  Budete očištěny od vzteku i nenávisti!


Je to nářez, je to tsunami, které nelze zastavit. Přesně takhle na mě nové album působí. Velmi uvěřitelně, inteligentně a zajímavě. Smršť, kalamita, kterou ocení hlavně fanoušci třeba takových NILE, HIDEOUS DIVINITY, DEVANGELIC, VITRIOL, HATE ETERNAL. Ostré riffy, po kterých odpadává maso od kostí, démonický a bestiální vokál, bicí, u kterých vám vyskočí mozek z hlavy. K tomu si připočtěte čitelný, masivní a krutý zvuk (Ronnie Björnström - mixing, mastering) a máte před sebou album, které vás rozseká na malé kousky. Mnohé napoví již obal, který vytvořil vždy skvělý Paolo Girardi. Songy se valí kupředu jako lavina smíchaná z krve, kamení, kostí a strachu. Už vám někdo hodil do obličeje kus syrového masa? Tak přesně takhle OLKOTH působí. Jako vyslanci temnoty, jako jezdci apokalypsy, kteří přijeli, aby se pomstili za všechny hříšníky. Hoď kamenem, kdo jsi bez viny. Nahrávka je propracovaná i po textové stránce. Posluchač dostane komplexní, velmi dobře poslouchatelné album, které smrdí sírou a má v sobě obrovské množství tlaku a síly. Skladby jsou velmi dobře napsány, obsahují velké množství zajímavách momentů. Drive, feeling, temná energie, načerpaná z lidského vzteku. O to tu jde především. Ať se na album podívám z jakékoliv stránky, je zkrátka skvělé. Doporučuji všem, kteří mají rádi kvalitní muziku. Také vás děsí tupý dav, veřejný lynč a zlo v očích? Pusťte si "At the Eye of Chaos" a uvidíte, že váš mozek bude očištěn jako po kyselině. Blast beast, sofistikovaný, brutální, surový death metal! Definice kruté smrti!

If you lock yourself in the library for a while and study the history of human violence, you might get sick of our twisted lineage sometime. Brutality has always been with us. We are fascinated by blood, suffering and filth. It's as if somewhere inside us we still have low instincts that surface every once in a while. When we're threatened, when we're scared, or just when we want to be bad. Sometimes I have anger too, but I always solve it by moving and then listening to some raw music.

OLKOTH are a new black death metal band that was formed in 2017. After their demo album (2019), the gentlemen are releasing a new full-length album that will nail you to the wall on the first listen. Sharp riffs that make the flesh fall off the bones, demonic and bestial vocals, drums that make your brain jump out of your head. Add to that a clear, massive and cruel sound (Ronnie Björnström - mixing, mastering) and you have an album that will cut you into small pieces. The cover artwork, by the always great Paolo Girardi, suggests a lot. The songs roll forward like an avalanche mixed of blood, stones, bones and fear. Has anyone ever thrown a piece of raw meat in your face? That's exactly how OLKOTH works. Like emissaries of darkness, like horsemen of the apocalypse come to avenge all sinners. Throw a stone, you who are blameless. The recording is also lyrically sophisticated. The listener gets a complex, very listenable album that reeks of brimstone and has a tremendous amount of pressure and power. The songs are very well written and contain a lot of interesting moments. Drive, feeling, dark energy, drawn from human rage. That's what it's all about. Whichever way I look at the album, it's simply great. I recommend it to everyone who likes quality music. Are you scared of the mob, the public lynching and the evil in your eyes? Listen to "At the Eye of Chaos" and you'll see your brain will be cleansed like acid. Někde daleko na severu v lesích, je staré, dávno opuštěné pohřebiště. V pověstech se říká, že se zde pohřbívali prokletí. Lidé, co od devadesátých let minulého století poslouchají prašivý death metal. Jejich rakve jsou popsány okultními symboly a když na hřbitov zavítáte večer, možná uslyšíte i ozvěny ze záhrobí. Vybral jsem si pro návštěvu mlhavý, deštivý den. Pod nohama mi křupaly vzpomínky na pohřby do země. Zastavil jsem se a věděl, že jsem zde správně. Na jednom náhrobku je nápis CHURCH OF THE DEAD.

Pro poslech jejich nové desky musíte mít rádi dlouhé stíny, chlad v duši i ostré riffy. Procházím se v kostnici a říkám si, že bych měl přidat hlasitost. Udělám to a lebky vyskládané na policích začnou pukat tlakem. Drtíme prašivé kosti a vzýváme temné síly. Tahle deska hoří jasným plamenem! A má velmi podmanivou, nebál bych se napsat magickou atmosféru. Finští maniaci hrají od srdce. Upřímně a opravdově. 


Základem je starý death metal z dávno exhumovaných hrobů, přidávány jsou potom d-beat a crustové pasáže. Zároveň ze skladeb doslova dýchá melancholie. Pokud máte rádi první alba ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, NIHILIST, MÖRBIT VOMIT, tak neváhejte ani chvilku. Hraje se zde hlavně pro vás i pro všechny pohřbené zaživa. Tahle smečka je složena ze samých zkušených muzikantů, kteří se spojili, aby vás svojí hudbou rozsekali na malé kousky. Představte si dávno opuštěné katakomby. Ve starobylých kobkách tu leží kostry padlých kněží. Pod nánosem špíny a pavučin je i spousta vzpomínek, nezbytné nostalgie, které pro poslech podobných nahrávek musíte mít. Novinka šílených Finů ale není jen pro šedivé posluchače, má v sobě totiž pověstné chvění, tlak a sílu. Navíc, já už si do svých uší nepustím to, co mi nechutná. "Beyond Death" jsem si vzal s sebou, když jsem se jednou probudil uprostřed noci. Dívám se do tmy a nechám se vést hudbou. Je jasné, že jsme skončili opět daleko na severu, v černých lesích. Ožívají tu démoni, prvotřídní smrtící kov a nahrubo nasekaná tma. Smrt i Satan by mohli vyprávět. Novinku ocení nejen oni, ale i všichni obdivovatelé nekonečných odstínů černé v hudbě. CHURCH OF THE DEAD nahráli album, které je skvělé po všech stránkách. Má mrazivý, masivní a mocný zničující zvuk (Markus Heinonen - Recording, Mixing, JB van der Wal - Mastering) i monumentální obal (Roberto Toderico - Artwork). Já, jako věčný hrobník, jsem velmi spokojen! Stará, prašivá, temná death metalová kobka byla otevřena!

Somewhere far to the north, in the woods, is an old, long-abandoned burial ground. Legends say that curses were buried here. People who've been listening to dirty death metal since the '90s. Their coffins are inscribed with occult symbols, and if you visit the cemetery in the evening, you might even hear echoes from beyond the grave. I chose a foggy, rainy day to visit. Memories of burials in the ground crunched beneath my feet. I paused and knew I was right here. One headstone reads CHURCH OF THE DEAD.

To listen to their new record you have to like long shadows, coldness in the soul and sharp riffs. I'm walking in the morgue and I'm thinking I should turn up the volume. I do, and the skulls stacked on the shelves begin to crack with pressure. We crush the scabby bones and invoke the dark forces. This slab burns with a bright flame! And it has a very captivating, I wouldn't be afraid to write magical atmosphere. Finnish maniacs play from the heart. Honest and real.


The basis is old death metal from long exhumed graves, then d-beat and crust passages are added. At the same time, the songs literally breathe melancholy. If you like the first albums of ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, NIHILIST, MÖRBIT VOMIT, don't hesitate a moment. It is played here mainly for you and for all those buried alive. This pack is made up of all experienced musicians who have come together to chop you into little pieces with their music. Imagine a long-abandoned catacomb. In ancient dungeons lie the skeletons of fallen priests. Beneath the layer of dirt and cobwebs there are also a lot of memories, the necessary nostalgia you must have to listen to recordings like this. But the Mad Finns' new release isn't just for grey listeners, for it has the proverbial tingle, pressure and power. Plus, I'm not letting what I don't like into my ears anymore. I took "Beyond Death" with me when I woke up in the middle of the night one day. I stare into the darkness and let the music guide me. It's clear we've ended up far north again, in the black forests. Demons come alive here, with premium lethal metal and coarsely chopped darkness. Death and Satan could tell a tale. Not only will they appreciate the novelty, but also all admirers of endless shades of black in music. CHURCH OF THE DEAD have recorded an album that is great in every way. It has a chilling, massive and mighty devastating sound (Markus Heinonen - Recording, Mixing, JB van der Wal - Mastering) and a monumental cover (Roberto Toderico - Artwork). I, as an eternal grave digger, am very satisfied! The old, dusty, dark death metal dungeon has been opened!

Už dávno necítím žádnou bolest. Konečně jsem našel klid. Po dlouhých letech vzteku, rebelie a nenávisti. Chytili mě, zavřeli do studené kobky a zkoušeli mi podávat různé léky. Stovky injekcí a stejně jsem se odmítal zařadit. Sám uprostřed davu. Je jiný, odlišný, říkali o mě. Měl jsem v sobě sílu a bojoval jsem za spravedlnost. Svázali mě a provedli lobotomii. Teď už mi je všechno jedno. Jsem jedním z mnoha. Jsou ale chvíle, kdy dokážu stále roztrhnout řetězy.

Někdy nevím, jestli jsou ti šílení za zdí a nebo uvnitř. Poslouchám novou desku vynikajících německých maniaků CONVICTORS a přemýšlím, jak bych utekl. Mám v sobě najednou spoustu energie. Líbí se mi, jak pánové přistupují k hudbě. Opravdově, surově, krutě. Novinka působí jako zběsilý útok! Rozseká vás na tisíc kousků. 

 

CONVICTORS datují svůj vznik do roku 1986. Kapela sice pak na dlouhé roky přerušila činnost, ale taková ta poctivost a touha ničit, které v sobě staré smečky mají, je u nich stále patrná. Důkazem je skvělý, masivní, devastující zvuk i monumentální obal. Po formální stránce byla odvedena perfektní práce. To by ale bylo nejen v dnešní době málo. Ve skladbách je navíc obrovské množství tlaku, mám opravdu chuť vzít do rukou kladivo a jít zbourat nejbližší zeď. Jako celek působí album velmi uvěřitelně, připomíná tsunami, lavinu z kostí, krve a lebek. Němci hrají od srdce a je to hodně znát. Ve své tvorbě odkazují na smečky jako MORBID ANGEL, MONSTROSITY, BRUTALITY, IMMOLATION, CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE, OBSCENITY. Letos se jim povedlo namíchat smrtelný koktejl způsobem, který mám asi nejraději. Budete po něm umírat v nekonečných křečích. Často se říká, že smrt má mnoho podob a tahle mi nejvíc připomíná chladnou a temnou kobku, do které vás zavřeli, aby vás mučili a předělali k obrazu svému. Nebudeme si nic nalhávat, současný svět stojí na tenké hranici mezi slávou a sebezničením. Není lehké jej pochopit. Čím dál častěji si potřebuji vyčistit mozek od zbytečných informací. "Tartaros" je deskou, která vám propláchne mozek kyselinou. Už dávno necítím žádnou bolest. Konečně jsem našel klid. Svázali mě a provedli lobotomii. Teď už mi je všechno jedno. Jsem jedním z mnoha. Jsou ale chvíle, kdy dokážu stále roztrhnout řetězy. Když poslouchám tuhle nahrávku, pokaždé zemřu a znovu se narodím. Monstrózní, maniakální death metal se zničujícím účinkem! Trepanace lebky!

I haven't felt any pain in a long time. I've finally found peace. After years of anger, rebellion and hatred. They caught me, locked me in a cold dungeon and tried to give me various drugs. Hundreds of injections and still I refused to fit in. Alone in the middle of the crowd. Different, distinct, they said of me. I had strength in me and I fought for justice. They tied me up and performed a lobotomy. Now I don't care anymore. I'm one of many. But there are times when I can still break the chains.

Sometimes I don't know if the madmen are behind the wall or inside. I'm listening to the new album by the excellent German maniacs CONVICTORS and I'm thinking about how I'd escape. I've got a lot of energy in me all of a sudden. I like the way the gentlemen approach music. Real, raw, brutal. The novelty feels like a furious attack! It'll chop you into a thousand pieces.


CONVICTORS dates back to 1986. The band went on hiatus for many years, but that honesty and desire to destroy that the old pack has is still evident in them. The proof is in the great, massive, devastating sound and monumental cover art. Formally, a perfect job has been done. But that wouldn't be enough in this day and age. There is also a huge amount of pressure in the songs, I really feel like picking up a hammer and going to knock down the nearest wall. As a whole, the album feels very believable, reminiscent of a tsunami, an avalanche of bones, blood and skulls. The Germans play from the heart and it shows a lot. In their work they refer to packs like MORBID ANGEL, MONSTROSITY, BRUTALITY, IMMOLATION, CANNIBAL CORPSE, DEICIDE, OBSCENITY. This year they have managed to mix a deadly cocktail in the way that I probably like best. It'll leave you dying in endless spasms. It's often said that death takes many forms, and this one reminds me most of a cold and dark dungeon where they lock you up to torture you and remake you in their image. Let's not kid ourselves, the modern world walks a fine line between glory and self-destruction. It's not easy to understand. More and more, I need to clear my brain of useless information. "Tartaros" is a record that will flush your brain with acid. I haven't felt any pain in a long time. I've finally found peace. They tied me up and performed a lobotomy. I don't care anymore. I'm one of many. But there are times when I can still break the chains. Every time I listen to this record, I die and I'm born again. Monstrous, maniacal death metal with devastating effect! Cranial trepanation!

Kdysi dávno, když jsem byl ještě mladý, jsme se zde scházeli. Na kraji hřbitova jsme přehrávali kazety kapel, které jsme uctívali. Pili jsme pivo a řešili život. Daleko od lidí jsme přemýšleli, jaké to je, když člověk zemře. Stará kobka s nápisem VOMITORY byla dlouhé roky zavřená. Letos můžeme znovu vstoupit dovnitř a vychutnat si morbidní koktejl v podobě, v jaké ho umí jenom tahle smečka. Dnešní recenze je hodně poznamenaná nostalgií a spoustou vzpomínek.

Švédští maniaci totiž patří dlouhodobě k jedněm z mých nejoblíbenějších. Vždy se mi na jejich nahrávkách líbila surovost, syrovost a brutalita. Bylo mi vždy velkou ctí nosit jejich trika, pít pivo a poslouchat je jako kulisu. Je na čase si narvat jejich novinku pod tlakem do hlavy. Vítejte zpátky!


Uteklo hodně vody v řece Styx od doby, kdy jsem dělal s kapelou rozhovor (odkazy naleznete dole pod článkem). Tenkrát nevylučovali nějaký vzpomínkový koncert, ale nové album už nechtěli vydávat. Ale časy se mění, zaplať Satan za to. Zvěsti o nové desce se začaly šířit záhrobím jako mor. Těšil jsem se hodně a zklamaný rozhodně nejsem. Pro mě je novinka "All Heads Are Gonna Roll" skvělým návratem do devadesátých let minulého století. Skladby v sobě mají stále poctivou sílu, všude stříká krev a uříznuté hlavy se smějí do ticha. V téhle morbidní podobě mám VOMITORY nejraději. S parádním, zničujícím zvukem, s obalem, který musím mít na tričku. Svět se možná točí dávno odlišným směrem, fanoušci poslouchají úplně jinou hudbu a u kobky se nás sejde vždycky už jenom pár, ale to nevadí, já budu dál poslouchat metal hlavně srdcem. Jsem starý pes, který pořád pije pivo, ohlédne se za hezkou holkou a užívá si melodie z čerstvě exhumovaných hrobů. Songy v sobě mají pradávnou sílu, tlak, drive a energii. Velmi dobře se poslouchají. Jsou jako ostré čepele nožů, které se vám zadřou hluboko pod kůži. Jsem moc rád, že se kapela vrátila a nakopala nám zase všem zadky. Je to masakr v márnici, se spoustou rozdrcených kostí, je to starodávný rituál smrti, kterého je radost se znovu zúčastnit. Je velmi příjemné zase jednou tančit na vlastním hrobě, je pro mě skvělé, že mám zase co poslouchat. Připíjím na zdraví pohárem s krví a dávám plný počet bodů. Tohle album hoří jasným plamenem! Absolutně zabijácký death metal, který vám vyrve všechny vnitřnosti z těla!

A long time ago, when I was young, we used to meet here. At the edge of the cemetery, we'd play tapes of the bands we worshipped. We drank beer and talked about life. Away from people, we wondered what it was like to die. The old dungeon with the VOMITORY sign had been closed for years. This year we can re-enter and enjoy a morbid cocktail as only this pack can. Today's review is very much marked by nostalgia and a lot of memories.

The Swedish Maniacs have long been one of my favourites. I've always liked the savagery, rawness and brutality of their records. It was always a great honor to wear their shirts, drink their beer and listen to them as a backdrop. It's time to cram their new stuff into your head under pressure. Welcome back!


A lot of water has flown in the river Styx since I interviewed the band (links below the article). At that time they didn't rule out a memorial concert, but they didn't want to release a new album. But times are changing, Satan pay for that. Rumors of a new album began to spread like a plague through the grave. I was really looking forward to it and I'm not disappointed. For me, the new "All Heads Are Gonna Roll" is a great throwback to the 1990s. The songs still have an honest power to them, with blood spurting everywhere and severed heads laughing into silence. It's in this morbid form that I like VOMITORY best. With a cool, devastating sound, with a cover that I have to wear on my shirt. The world may be spinning in a different direction, the fans listen to completely different music and there are only a few of us at the dungeon anymore, but it doesn't matter, I will continue to listen to metal mainly with my heart. I'm an old dog who still drinks beer, looks back at a pretty girl and enjoys the tunes from freshly exhumed graves. The songs have an ancient power, pressure, drive and energy. They are very easy to listen to. They're like sharp knife blades that dig deep into your skin. I'm so glad the band came back and kicked all our asses again. It's a massacre in the morgue, with lots of crushed bones, it's an ancient death ritual that's a joy to take part in again. It's very nice to dance on my own grave once more, it's great for me to have something to listen to again. I raise a glass of blood to your health and give you full marks. This album is burning bright! Absolutely killer death metal that will rip your guts out!

Zmrzlé kosti se postupně rozpadnou v prach. Začne na nich pracovat chlad, temnota a strach. Když vás potom po letech exhumují, tak budou přesně vědět, jak jste žili. A také, co jste poslouchali za muziku. Švédským REVOLTING a jejich děsivému death metalu jsme se u nás věnovali již několikrát. Jedná se přesně o ten druh kapely, od které sice nemůžete očekávat nic nového, ale pokaždé se jedná o hudbu, u které potkáte přízraky.

Novinka není výjimkou. Studené melodie, Roggův typický vokál, spousta zajímavých momentů a také pach smrti, který se vznáší všude kolem. Dovedu pochopit, když mi řeknete, že už tady všechno tohle bylo a skupina se opakuje. Jenže přátelé, to dělají skoro všichni. REVOLTING aspoň umí vytvořit krásně morbidní atmosféru. Proto je poslouchám stále velmi rád. Koneckonců, posuďte sami, stačí přidat volume. 


Fanouškům kapely asi nemusím opakovat, že se zde jedná o smrtící kov stejného druhu, jako hrávali a hrají smečky typu PAGANIZER, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, EDGE OF SANITY, TIAMAT, HYPOCRISY, GRAVE. Základem jsou samozřejmě klasické severské melodie se zřetelným Roggovým rukopisem, který můžeme slyšet v mnoha jeho dalších počinech. A že je již nelze snad ani spočítat. To ale nic nemění na tom, že se jedná o mrtvolné obrazy ze starých spisů. Ve skladbách ožívají zrůdy i démoni. Vrazi touží po krvi a vy si budete připadat, jako u hororových filmů z osmdesátých let. Budete vědět, že je to všechno nadsázka, ale stejně se budete ohlížet za sebe a lekat se stínů. Odvrácená tvář naší mysli dokáže někdy vytvořit hrůzné věci. REVOLTING tohle všechno vzali, opatřili dobrým zvukem i obalem a nahráli na hudební nosič. Asi už nikdy nezmění směr, ani neotočí kolem metalových dějin, ale to přeci vůbec nevadí. Pokud máte rádi jejich syrový a surový švédský nářez, tak neváhejte ani chvilku. Jedná se stále o hudbu, která je plná zajímavých momentů a třeba jako kulisa do auta se mi opravdu osvědčila. Koneckonců, nakonec stejně skončí naše kosti ve zmrzlé zemi a rozpadneme se v prach. Tak proč si zatím neužít? Hrobníci by mohli vyprávět. Chladné, hororové death metalové příběhy!

The frozen bones will gradually crumble into dust. Cold, darkness and fear begin to work on them. When they exhume you years later, they'll know exactly how you lived. And what music you listened to. We've covered Sweden's REVOLTING and their terrifying death metal several times already. This is exactly the kind of band that you can't expect anything new from, but it's always music where you meet ghosts.

The new one is no exception. Cold melodies, Rogg's typical vocals, lots of interesting moments and also the smell of death that hovers all around. I can understand if you tell me that all this has been here before and the band is repeating itself. But my friends, that's what almost everyone does. At least REVOLTING can create a beautifully morbid atmosphere. That's why I still love listening to them. After all, judge for yourself, just turn up the volume.


I probably don't need to repeat to the band's fans that this is death metal of the same kind as PAGANIZER, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, EDGE OF SANITY, TIAMAT, HYPOCRISY, GRAVE. The basis is of course classic Nordic melodies with a clear Rogga signature, which can be heard in many of his other projects. And that they can't be counted anymore. But that doesn't change the fact that these are dead images from old writings. Monsters and demons come to life in the compositions. The killers are out for blood and you will feel like you are watching a horror movie from the 80s. You'll know it's all hyperbole, but you'll still look behind you and be scared of the shadows. The flip side of our minds can sometimes create horrible things. REVOLTING have taken all of this, provided it with good sound and cover art, and put it on a music CD. They will probably never change direction or turn around metal history, but that doesn't matter. If you like their raw and brutal Swedish stuff, don't hesitate a moment. This is still music that is full of interesting moments and, for example, as a car backdrop it really worked for me. After all, in the end we'll end up in the frozen ground anyway and crumble into dust. So why not enjoy it in the meantime? The gravediggers could tell a story. Cold, horror death metal stories!

Ležíš už několik dní na stejném místě. Máš čas na přemýšlení a také si zabil tři lidi. Neznal si je a nic si proti nim neměl. Určitě měli rodiny, přátele, jistě se rádi bavili, žili, měli své holky. Slyšíš zvuk vrtulníku. Uleví se ti. Konečně se vrátíš. Jenže, válka vždycky byla svinstvo. Zapomněli na tebe a svět za několik okamžiků zčernal. Ptáš se proč, s tváří rozežranou od napalmu.

JUST BEFORE DAWN jsou zpět a tentokrát svojí hudbou i texty popisují válku ve Vietnamu. Byla specifická, úplně jiná, než ty předešlé. Stejně jako mrazivý death metal, který tahle smečka hraje. Mám opět pocit, že jsem přímo na bojišti. V džungli, s puškou v ruce. Ledové melodie, devastující bicí, vše připomíná střelu, která proletí brzy tvým mozkem.


Kapela, složená ze samých death metalových veteránů, moc dobře ví, jak nahrát skvělé album. Novinka je toho jasným důkazem. Skladby jsou napsány velmi uvěřitelně. Zřetelný, jasný a originální Biazziho rukopis je ovlivněn švédským death metalem, ale ctí i klasické BOLT THROWER. Pro mě, starého fanouška, je vždy nejvíc důležité, abych hudbě věřil, aby se mi usadila v kostech, hluboko do mozku. A tohle umí JUST BEFORE DAWN jako vždy na výbornou. Je vlastně jedno, na jaké straně bojujete, jedinými jistotami je smrt a ryzí, opravdový a reálný smrtící kov. Moje fantazie pracuje na plné obrátky. Líbí se mi, že si kapela na nic nehraje, je svá a poznáte ji od ostatních během několika okamžiků. Nové album "Battle-Sight Zeroing" je navíc doslova návykové. Pouštím si u něj vždy staré dokumenty, trávíme spolu celé víkendy a večer, když si dám pár piv, tak vše vynikne nejlépe. Prožívám osudy hrdinů i šílených bastardů, stále mě bolí lidská krutost a špína. Jsem rád, že ještě existují lidé, kteří na válečná zvěrstva upozorňují. Neměli bychom zapomínat, události posledních měsíců jsou toho jasným důkazem. Ono je vlastně o hodně lepší nahrávku poslouchat, než o ní psát. Čekám v zákopu a poslouchám zvuky noci. Jsem vrah i oběť. Jsem voják nicoty. Vynikající záležitost! Mrazivá, temná válka v death metalové džungli!

You've been lying in the same place for days. You have time to think and you also killed three people. You didn't know them and you had nothing against them. They certainly had families, friends, they certainly liked to have fun, to live, they had their girls. You hear the sound of a helicopter. You will be relieved. You'll finally come back. But war has always been crap. They forgot about you and the world went black in a few moments. You ask why, face eaten away by napalm.

JUST BEFORE DAWN are back and this time, they describe the war in Vietnam with their music and lyrics. It was specific, completely different from the previous ones. Just like the chilling death metal that this pack plays. I feel like I'm right on the battlefield again. In the jungle, rifle in hand. Icy melodies, devastating drums, everything resembles a bullet that will soon fly through your brain.

The band, composed of death metal veterans themselves, knows very well how to record a great album. The news is a clear proof of that. The songs are written very believably. Distinct, clear and original Biazzi's signature is influenced by Swedish death metal, but also honors the classic BOLT THROWER. For me, an old fan, the most important thing is always to believe in the music, so that it settles in my bones, deep in my brain. And JUST BEFORE DAWN does this perfectly, as always. It doesn't really matter which side you fight on, the only certainties are death and pure, true and real death metal. My imagination is running at full speed. I like that the band doesn't play for anything, they are their own and you can tell them from the others in a few moments. The new album "Battle-Sight Zeroing" is also quite addictive. I always play old documents with him, we spend whole weekends together, and in the evening, when I have a few beers, everything comes out the best. I experience the fates of heroes and crazy bastards, human cruelty and filth still hurts me. I am glad that there are still people who draw attention to war atrocities. We should not forget, the events of the last months are a clear proof of this. It's actually much better to listen to a recording than to write about it. I wait in the trench and listen to the sounds of the night. I am both the murderer and the victim. I am a soldier of nothingness. Excellent matter! A cold, dark war in the death metal jungle!

Až jednou nastane nukleární zima, tak vylezou z děr všichni nemrtví. Budou se toulat ulicemi opuštěných měst a hledat všechny prokleté. Všude bude hrát jen death metal a já budu konečně spokojený. Někdy rád objevuji nové kapely, jen tak, náhodně. Tentokrát musím poděkovat jednomu našemu čtenáři, který mě na tuhle švédskou smečku upozornil. Ano, ENCRYPMENT jsou ze Stockholmu a hrají přesně tím způsobem, který mám tolik rád.

Divoce, neurvale, přesto chladně a temně. V jejich hudbě se mísí vlivy smrtícího kovu, crustu, grindcore a black metalu (podobně jako třeba u STRIGOI, VALLENFYRE). Najednou vstoupil do mého těla nekonečný mráz. Myšlenky měly barvu krve a nevěděl jsem, jestli jsem živý nebo už dávno mrtvý. Poslouchal jsem totiž "Dödens födsel". 


Pokaždé, když se setkám s novou kapelou, tak poslouchám velmi pozorně. Věnuji každé desce spoustu času a teprve až pak usednu a sepíšu pár slov. U "Dödens födsel" jsem si začal ihned podupávat nohou a bouchat pěstí do stolu. Novinka má v sobě obrovské množství černé energie, nasbírané snad někde v severských lesích. Když jsem pak vyrazil brzy ráno do práce a ulicemi se toulaly jenom stíny, měl jsem opravdu pocit, že nemrtví povstali. Prašivý zvuk, nepříjemný a jedovatý vokál, ale hlavně spousta nápadů a nálady podobné stavům lidské mysli po apokalypse. Tore Stjerna (Mayhem, Nominon, Desultory, Insision, Repugnant, Paganizer atd.). Obal vytvořil Jesse Peper a tak mám jistotu, že po formální stránce je vše v nejlepším pořádku. Líbí se mi, že nejsou ENCRYPMENT jen dalším, dnes tolik typickým klonem "starého dobrého švédského death metalu", ale přinášejí do tohoto stylu i spoustu svých nápadů. Líbí se mi kombinace stylů, podobné jedovaté koktejly velmi rád ochutnám. Je to vlastně jednoduché. Přistupuji k muzice stejně jako před více než třiceti lety. Buď mě rozseká a baví mě a nebo jdu dál. Tentokrát jsem se zastavil a strávil s nahrávkou spoustu krásných morbidních chvil. Mohu vám ji jenom doporučit. Z podzemí vylezli další z démonů, kteří přesně ví, o čem je opravdová reálná smrt. Říkají si ENCRYPMENT a zabíjejí na potkání. Chladná, temná, ďábelská modlitba za všechny nemrtvé!

Once nuclear winter occurs, all the undead will climb out of the holes. They will roam the streets of abandoned cities looking for all the damned. Only death metal will be playing everywhere and I will finally be satisfied. Sometimes I like to discover new bands, just like that, randomly. This time I have to thank one of our readers who alerted me to this Swedish pack. Yes, ENCRYPMENT are from Stockholm and they play exactly the way I like so much.

Wild, unruly, yet cold and dark. Their music mixes the influences of death metal, crust, grindcore and black metal (similar to STRIGOI, VALLENFYRE, for example). Suddenly, an endless cold entered my body. The thoughts were the color of blood and I didn't know if I was alive or long dead. I was listening to "Dödens födsel".


Every time I meet a new band, I listen very carefully. I spend a lot of time on each record and only then do I sit down and write a few words. At "Dödens födsel" I immediately started stamping my foot and banging my fist on the table. The novelty contains a huge amount of black energy, perhaps collected somewhere in the Nordic forests. Then when I went to work early in the morning and only shadows roamed the streets, I really had the feeling that the undead had risen. Dusty sound, unpleasant and poisonous vocals, but mainly a lot of ideas and moods similar to the states of the human mind after the apocalypse. Tore Stjerna (Mayhem, Nominon, Desultory, Insision, Repugnant, Paganizer, etc.). The cover was created by Jesse Peper, so I'm sure everything is in the best shape in terms of form. I like that ENCRYPMENT are not just another clone of "good old Swedish death metal", which is so typical today, but they also bring a lot of their own ideas to this style. I like the combination of styles, I am very happy to taste similar poisonous cocktails. It's actually simple. I approach music the same way I did more than thirty years ago. Either he cuts me and enjoys me or I move on. This time I stopped and spent a lot of beautiful morbid moments with the recording. I can only recommend it to you. Another of the demons came out of the underground, who knows exactly what true real death is about. They call themselves ENCRYPMENT and they kill when they meet. A cold, dark, diabolical prayer for all undead!

Answered Marcus, thank you!

Ave, can you introduce your band to our readers? – When was it founded and what style of music do you play etc.?

Marcus: ENCRYPTMENT was formed in 2015 to play music influenced by both extreme metal and punk. In recent years the sound along with the influences has shifted slightly. We play Death Metal.

Where and under what conditions were you recording the new album? Who was in charge of sound, production and mastering?

The album was recorded in Necromorbus Studio. The studio is actually an old church located in the countryside and that made for a truly great atmosphere while recording. Tore Stjerna produced the album together with us, as well as handled the mixing. Alan Douches of West West Side Music did the mastering.


How many copies were released and which medium was used for this new edition (CD, digital, vinyl, cassette)?

Initially released in 500 copies on CD and 150 on cassette. The LPs will arrive some time in 2023.

Who is the author of the lyrics and how were they created and about what do the lyrics deal with?

Marcus: The lyrics are written both by me and Christoffer. The foundational themes of the lyrics deal with death, life and spirituality, but they are obviously spiced with a lot of sub-themes such as drugs, madness and decadence… We feel that the lyrics are equally important to the music and therefore spend a lot of time getting them the way we want them.

Who created the logo of the band, and who took care of the graphics and the website? What about you and social networks? Do you consider these things important?

Marcus: The current logo is made by me and I handle most of the visual side of the band. The cover art of ”Dödens födsel” was painted by Jesse Peper.

I definitely realize the importance of a social media presence these days, but seeing bands revoltingly upload videos of every other rehearsal and other type of similar nonsense is quite absurd, especially in a Death/Black Metal context. We choose to upload relevant things that need to be uploaded for people to keep up and that’s it.


Which label did you choose for releasing your album and why this label? Are you satisfied by how your label represents you and takés care about you?

Marcus: Nuclear Winter Records. Anastasis who is the owner of the label definitely has the right intentions and completely understands and respects the essence of Death Metal. This is exactly what we wanted to find in a record label.

Which bands do you idolise and where do you get your inspiration?

Marcus: ”Idolise” is perhaps not the right word here, but some of the bands we are influenced by in different ways would be Funeral Mist, Teitanblood, Kaamos, Morbid Angel, Skitsystem, Autopsy and Vorum.

We get inspiration from all over and any artform, be it paintings, books or music. Also meditation and things related are very good tools for some things to find its way to one’s mind.

Did you send your record to some Labels - which are the labels? How was the response?

Marcus: We were in contact with a few, but decided to work together with Nuclear Winter Records due to NWR being one of the few labels these days that really understand what Death Metal is all about.


How many gigs have you played? Which type of gigs do you prefer, whether it's (clubs or festivals) and which of your performances would you consider as the best?

Marcus: Not too many as of now, mostly smaller venues which are great in some ways and terrible in other (usually not the best sound etc.). We had a recent show in Trondheim in Norway at a classic punk venue and it was craziness in every way imaginable. Perfect.

What about your plans for the future? What do you want to achieve with the band?

Marcus: Start writing for the next record and play more shows. I want to achieve exactly what we have right now - a perfect platform of expression and spiritual exploration of Death and what lies beyond.

Ave FARSOTH! I haven’t found any interview in the Czech language with you, yet. So please, first introduce the band to our readers who don’t know you. You could start from the early beginnings and describe the whole FARSOTH history.

I’m just listening to your new record „The Plague“ and I feel like as if I am closed in some tomb together with DISMEMBER, NIHILIST, ENTOMBED, ENTRAILS, BLOODBATH, CARNAGE, DESULTORY. The record has a great Swedish sound. Where did you record it and how satisfied you are with it? Did you have the "last word" concerning the resulting sound?

Ohhh. That's some mighty comparisons. Thanx alot for the kind words. Everything except for the drums are recorded at home. You don't need that much equipment these days to record your self. A good computer and some good plugs and a decent sound card is all you basically need. The drums however is recorded at Chris Barkensjö (Lik sthlm) rehearsal. At the time for the recording we didn't have a drummer, and Chris who is a good friend of ours helped us out. To record drums you need (in my opinion) some decent microphones and someone that knows how to set em up. I mixed the album and we are really satisfied with how it turned out. I'm not a pro in any way, I just tryed to get a sound that I liked. We in Farsoth will always have the last word of course.


How was the new material for album „„The Plague“ created? How exactly FARSOTH writes the music?

I write all the music and Jocke Mikiver writes all the lyrics. I just start out with a riff and then let whatever comes out from that starting riff guide me throu the process. I rearly change anything in the songs because I belive that the first thing that comes out of the process is often the best. I don't try to create anything new, I just write what I like.

"The Plague" has a dead, morbid cover. The artist is my favorite artist Mark Riddick I like his work, How did you choose the idea for the cover and what should it represent?

Mark is one of the best in my opinion. We wanted the cover to represent our band name and the lyrics. Farsot(h) means plague in Swedish and the lyrics is all about different plagues. So to have skeletons and a plague doctor on the cover just fits well.


Could you reveal us who is an author of the lyrics and what is their background? Where did you take inspiration for certain topics?

The new album was released by Kvlt und Kaos Productions. This label has a very good name in the underground scene and does a very good job. However, didn't you want to release a record in some bigger label? Did you ask some other label? How you are actually satisfied with Kvlt und Kaos Productions?

It's actually not released by Kuk. We decided to part ways with Kuk before the release. Reasons for that was simply that we kind of wanted different things for the band. There's no hard feelings between us and we wish Kuk all the best in the future. We decided to release the album ourselves because we just felt that we allredy waited to long to release it. To send it to bigger companies would have delayed the release even more. Maybe we will try to release future albums on some bigger labels, but for now it feels right to do it ourselves.


You play typical, classical Swedish old school death metal. You have never changed the direction, you are let's say „orthodox“. Personally, this is one reason why I like your music so much. But, didn’t you think about try to play something different, somehow to make the FARSOTH music more unusual?

As I said earlier. Farsoth is not trying to do anything new. We just want to make music that we like and would buy ourselves.

Looking at the names of the musicians, you've come a really long way. It's very obvious that you're working on yourselves as a band. How often does FARSOTH actually rehearse? Are you an honest band that meets regularly, or are you more of a punk band that lets it all hang out?

We try to rehears ones a month. It's really hard to rehears more because we all live in different part of the country. Everyone in Farsoth has played music for a long time and most of the rehearsals are done at home. But with that said we really like to rehears and take every opportunity to do that.

Do you have some goal, which you would like to achieve? Someone wants to release an album with a large label; other wants to play on one stage with some famous band. What about you?

Release albums, play live and have a great time doing that is our goal. I think that is what most bands want.

Can you recommend some new albums, which impressed you at the latest time?

Lik is one of my absolute favorite bands right now. All their albums are awesome.

Do you know and listen to some metal bands from the Czech Republic?

Sorry. I probably have listened on bands from CR but I'm not the guy that listen alot to music. When you constantly do music yourself it's nice to get a break from music when not making music.


We are slowly approaching the end of the interview so I would like to ask one more philosophical question. How would you define the Swedish death metal style? What represents this music for you and why did you choose exactly this genre?

Swedish death metal is probably a bit more melodic than other death metal. I guess that's the main reason for at least me why I love Swedish death metal. With that said I also like death metal from other countries. Swedish death metal tends also be a bit more groovy than DM from other countries. And I really like that groove.

What FARSOTH is planning for the next few months?

Make album nr 2 and play live as much as possible.
